Left eye, right eye, now 3D
Friday, March 18, 2011 at 05:38PM Apparently it's actually good for your eyes to play video games. Optometrists are saying that it's actually a good idea to play the 3DS. Part of the manufactor warnings are that children under six should not play the 3DS because it may harm their eyesight, but the doctors are saying something else. There is a vision disorder, amblyopia, which means one eye has difficulty seeing details, that could be detected when playing the 3DS. The doctors are saying that because of the design, having two screens one on top of the other with the ability to move one screen to enable or disable the 3D effect, they can use that to help find early symptoms of amblyopia or even subtle problems with reading.
Many people get nauseous or have headaches when watching 3D movies. The cause of this is because in order to give our eyes the illusion of depth, different signals are received by the left and right eyes (remember the classic red and blue glasses?). For those who have headaches or get motion sickness, it means that the eyes are misreading the different signals causing strain which results in headaches and such. These sort of symptoms are subtle enough and unable to be charted with any normal eye exam, so the fact that you get a headache may mean that you should see your local optometrist. The new craze in 3D may actually help those to have and may develop a vision impairment.
Diablo on the console?
Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 10:13PM
As we continue to painfully wait, Blizzard has decided to twist our arm even more with hitns that Diablo III will be available on the XBox 360 and the PS3. It started as a rumor from an ad Blizzard put up on their website in hopes to grab some console developers to take on the project. CEO Mike Morhaime has said "We are looking for a couple of console developers, yes. At this stage though, it's basically an investigation to see if it makes sense for Diablo to be a console game as well as a PC game."
This wouldn't be the only MMO on multiple consoles. Borderlands is available on the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. It wouldn't be too difficult since the techonology and capability for MMO is possible thorugh consoles and computers, the only question is who will be willing to take on the project? I'm sure that there's some company out there who has noticed the success Blizzard has made and will want at least a piece of the action.
